STEINBERG CUBASE PRO 8 MAC DRIVERS
Using a bootcamped Windows isn't the solution either, as Apple has decided to dumb their drivers for Windows down quite a bit, plus some of their FW chipsets, while being ok-ish under OSX, will just crap out under Windows. We're talking about around half the performance of what, say, Logic would give you, using the very same setup. At least I don't.Īnd it's really not as if we were talking about 0.1% figures or so. So a combination of the two seems to be exactly what you don't want. This is nothing new, Cubase is very wellknown to perform quite badly on Macs - and it's also wellknown to not perform too great under truly low latencies. I should add that all other programs (this includes audio software such as Logic, Reaper and what not) is performing quite well, given the rather non-high-end specs of this system, but Cubase is really an exception, especially at lower latencies (64 samples is a complete no-go, 128 is still bad, anything higher and I don't like to work with it anymore). Personally, I can only say that Cubase 5 is running as bad as it gets on my Macbook (white, 2.4, 4GB RAM, 500GB internal drive, various audio interfaces). They screwed up a bit when my friend bought laptop from them so im a bit scared away by that also.

Building my own PC is def not a smooth way for me.īuying a dedicated Frost ACM (swedish music PC) for same money as Mac Pro doesnt make sense either. Ive chosen the software already and have been doubling for a year. Ofcourse the macworld has all their issues with no help from apple when you need it, but the choices are fewer and the secondhand market is better etc. Something is feeling wrong with going Windows these days, and when everyone else is running their software with no hassle on mac it feels like a good step to take. I guess when buying a mac i have the choice of both win7 (soon) and os x. I didnt want this to be a mac/pc-discussion but since the question is out there.

If i ever go to mix somewhere else, atleast im on the right OS and only need to install my software there. In stockholm and sweden where i live EVERYONE is running mac and a few percent is making music on PC. Sorry, but what is "speedstep" ? and how does it degrade a Mac's performance ? Is this specific to Cubase 5 ? (i.e.
